AGROGAS – Waste methanization for the diversification of energy resources in the agricultural, livestock and agribusiness sectors
Project Overview
The objective of the AGROGAS project is to ensure that the agricultural and agro-industrial sectors reduce the environmental impact produced by their respective waste and at the same time reduce their energy dependence by improving the efficiency of energy resources in the rural areas of the SUDOE territory.
Project Results
The regions of SUDOE, where agriculture is a fundamental part of the economy, are particularly exposed to climate change. The availability of water and rising temperatures will greatly affect agricultural production, while at the same time influencing energy production. In addition, the shift from extensive to intensive farming has led to an exponential increase in waste and an increase in energy consumption and, consequently, the sector’s dependence on the price of energy. Furthermore, this increase in waste and energy consumption has a direct negative effect on the production of greenhouse gases and on climate change, which leads to a high vulnerability index of the regions involved in AGROGAS.
