ESPREssO – Enhancing Synergies for disaster PRevention in the EurOpean Union
Project Overview
ESPREssO aims at contributing to a new strategic vision to approach natural risk reduction and climate change adaptation, thereby opening new frontiers for research and policy making.
To achieve this goal, the project structure is built upon the central role of three main challenges to be addressed in order to propose ways to mitigate differences, to identify gaps, and to overcome the boundaries among different topics:
- To propose ways to create more coherent national and European approaches on Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation and resilience strengthening;
- To enhance risk management capabilities by bridging the gap between science and legal/policy issues at local and national levels in six European countries;
- To address the issue of efficient management of trans-boundary crises.
The main final products of ESPREssO will be the Guidelines on risk management capability and a Vision Paper on future research strategies in order to better define the research priorities following the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
Project Results
The ESPREssO Vision Paper and Guidelines represent a major achievement for the ESPREssO project, being the result of an intense collaborative activity that extended beyond the Consortium partners thanks to the strong collaboration with the scientific community and relevant stakeholders engaged.
The two documents have been presented during the Second Stakeholder Forum and the Final Project Meeting which took place in Brussels on October 18th and 19th, 2019. These events have been a fruitful moment to share the final outcomes with relevant stakeholders and EC- DGs representatives.
The Vision Paper and the Guidelines are now also available in French and German and are freely downloadable.
