Resilient Forest – Coupling water, fire and climate resilience with biomass production in Forestry to adapt watersheds to climate change
Project Overview
The LIFE RESILIENT FORESTS project is about improving the resilience of forests to climate change, enhancing resilience to wildfire, environmental degradation and other climate-induced disturbances. The overall goal is to develop a replicable forest management approach at the watershed scale that can be applied elsewhere across Europe. The project will develop a Decision Support System (DSS) – a guide for forest managers to make decisions about forest management practices at the watershed scale by adapting to climate change.
Project Results
The main goal is the successful demonstration and replication of an innovative forest management approach at the watershed scale that: 1) increases forest resilience against climate change, 2) increases water budget, 3) increases bio-energy production, 4) increases providing economic opportunities in rural areas, 5) reduces fire risk
